Challenge: A Pirate-themed package for a blind grab set of 12
Solution: I chose a typical treasure chest from the game, imported the 3D model from the game into Maya, textured it and rendered it. The chest template was built in Illustrator with dimensions that would fit 12 boxes in the shipper. Photoshop was used to wrap, warp and cover the template with the renders. Aspects that didn’t transfer well were hand-painted.
Challenge: A Pirate-themed package to fit the set of 12
Solution: I chose a vivd “Caribbean” ocean and island theme. Sea of Thieves is critically acclaimed for it’s beautiful ocean physics. In addition, the bright blue contrasted well with the warm wood tones of the treasure chest. The design held all 12 boxes and fit the shelf “footprint.”
Challenge: A Retro package to fit the set of 12
Solution: I pursued the nostalgia angle and built a cyber-space from scratch using Illustrator and Photoshop. The neon colors were vivid and easily recognizable. The purple galaxy complemented the yellow official SEGA seal and allowed the black boxes to pop. The design held all 12 boxes and fit the shelf “footprint.”
Each shipper came with 12 blindboxes. Each box contained 1 of 6 possible randomized die-cast consoles, a clear acrylic stand and matching collector’s card. The consoles were randomized with increasing rarity The shipper was designed with the back card folding over itself for easy shipping to stores.
Challenge: A Clean, Techy package for a blind grab set of 12
Solution: I liked the bold colors and long, angular lines that were present in Titanfall 1 and 2. This would help connect with old and new fans. I covered the box with recognizable weapon renders. The product photos on back of the box were photographed in a lightbox and edited in Photoshop.
Challenge: A Dystopian FPS package to fit the set of 12
Solution: I chose to use a realistic exploded planet to set us apart from the competition’s flat dark colors. The blue hue was vivid and easily recognizable. The orange invaders popped against the blue. The flat HUD graphic was used to separate the line-up from the background and had to be completely rebuilt in Illustrator. The design held all 12 boxes and fit the shelf “footprint.”
The Xbox One HDMI System Selector was a new product that needed packaging. I used renders and photos to try to illustrate its purpose. I used outlines to simulate actual hardware like consoles and controllers. This had an added effect of making the packaging appear less cluttered and look like a technical drawing which added a cool tech feel to the accessories inside. I also added subtle hexagons and a concentric aperture design to the background to center focus. This accessory was very difficult to explain to a consumer so I created diagrams to the front in Illustrator.
